‘Well, then, why DON’T you think so?’ said my aunt.
‘Because you and I are very different people,’ I returned.
This quote comes to mind when someone describes their thinking or something that they like that's foreign and unexpected to me. I can't assume I know what someone else prefers and why! What an interesting world it is, with such different people!
The 2020 movie of David Copperfield was fun. I loved how bright and colorful the costumes were, it brought out the humor and brightness of Dickens, even in terrible circumstances. And I liked how he collected phrases other characters said, visually. They changed the ending for his first wife, which makes it more light and palatable for the audience, but does skip over some of the tragedy there. Some of the color blind casting I was perfectly fine with, Dev Patel did a great job, some of it was a little hard for me to suspend my disbelief about and pulled me out of the story (Cinderella from the 90s diversity works for fairy tales, but if I feel like a Dickens story is a fairy tale, the tragedies don't hit as hard, it feels like a play, less real). Besides that quibble, I really enjoyed the movie.
LOVE this book. It’s so underrated!
Love this! I have such fond memories of my first time reading DC, and laughing out loud at Aunt Betsey and the donkeys 😂
Thank you so much for reading! Agreed, that was hilarious 😂
I so enjoyed reading David Copperfield.
One small quote that I think of sometimes is,
‘Well, then, why DON’T you think so?’ said my aunt.
‘Because you and I are very different people,’ I returned.
